About

Robin Smothers

Robin Smothers

I have been practicing public relations and communications for nearly three decades (wow, where does the time go?).

My professional journey has included marketing communications positions in an international art publishing company, a non-profit, a Fortune 500 company, a public relations agency, 15 years running my own consulting firm and most recently, working in government.

I’m fiercely loyal and constantly curious. But perhaps the most important thing to know about me is that I love to learn.

It’s that desire to learn that I believe gives me an edge over many of my peers. On any given week, I’m reading something new, participating in professional development or taking an online course.

For those who need a little bit more, I hold a:

  • B.A. in Journalism

  • Master of Public Affairs degree

  • Certificate in Business Communications

  • Certificate of Public Participation from the International Association of Public Participation

I have been accredited in Public Relations for nearly 20 years (think of an APR to public relations as a CPA is to accounting), and am the past president of both Women in Communications, Twin Cities Chapter and Minnesota School Public Relations Association.

Experience

Over the years, I’ve worked with just about every type of organization and industry you can think of (seriously). During my 15 years as a consultant and agency owner, I primarily specialized in:

  • Government organizations

  • Licensing and licensed products

  • Public education

  • Architectural and building (Business to Business)

If you’d like additional details, drop me a note.

Just for fun

On any given spring, summer or fall weekend, you’ll find me watching Twins baseball, biking 50+ miles, golfing, kayaking, or walking along the Mississippi River with my husband John and Boxer, Auggie. In the winter, you’ll find me walking closer to home, cross country skiing, pub curling, practicing hot yoga or reading.
